The Big Apple is the scene of a major mixed martial arts event. In preparation for UFC 281, which will take place at the World’s Greatest Arena, Madison Square Garden, on Saturday night, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is putting up an exciting pay-per-view.
Israel The Last Stylebender” Adesanya will face Alex Pereira in the main event of the evening to defend his Middleweight championship. A type of rematch from the pair’s kickboxing days.
Adesanya is entering his sixth championship defence and is undefeated in the Middleweight class. The combatant has a 23-1 career record, with 15 of those victories coming by means of knockout. His three most recent title fights, including the contentious conclusion of his contest with Jared Cannonier at UFC 276, have all resulted in decisions. The No. 2 fighter in the world, pound for pound, is Adesanya.
At UFC 276 that same evening, Pereira defeated Sean Strickland via first-round knockout. Since making his promotion debut last year, the multiple-time kickboxing world champion has a career record of 6-1, with five of those victories coming by knockout. Pereira has defeated Adesanya twice in kickboxing matches.
Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparaza will face Zhang “Magnum” Weili in the other championship match. Weili is the current Women’s Strawweight champion.
Esparaza has won the title twice in the division, having previously defeated Rose Namajunas at UFC 274 to take the first victory. The former champion of The Ultimate Fighter holds the No. 4 spot among women’s fighters in terms of pound-for-pound record and has an MMA record of 19-6.
