Last weekend, Adesanya lost in New York while defending his UFC middleweight title against bitter rival Pereira. However, a UFC legend thinks the Brazilian is the worst 185-pound champion ever.

After ousting Israel Adesanya, UFC legend Chael Sonnen declared Alex Pereira the “worst UFC 185lb champion ever.”

After only three victories since joining the organisation, Pereira received a title challenge last weekend in New York against longtime foe Adesanya.

And “Poatan” took advantage of the chance, stopping the fight in the final round with a stunning stoppage to unseat the champion and take home the prize.

Given that ‘The Last Stylebender’ will have an immediate opportunity to exact revenge on Pereira for his most recent defeat in 2023, it is likely that Pereira and Adesanya’s rivalry is far from over.

Both competitors have said they are open to a rematch, but Adesanya is more confident given that he was leading before the stoppage due to his position as the leader on the scorecards.

He also believes that the fight was stopped prematurely by referee Marc Goddard and that his hand should have been raised at the final horn.
