Alex Pereira, the middleweight champion of the UFC, wouldn’t do well against Khamzat Chimaev, according to Daniel Cormier. In the main event of UFC 281, Pereira (7-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) defeated Israel Adesanya to win the middleweight championship. After suffering severe injuries at the end of Round 1, “Poatan” was taken down and subdued in Round 3.
But Pereira fought back to KO Adesanya in Round 5 despite trailing 3-1 according to the judges’ scores. As he pursues middleweight gold as well, unbeaten star Chimaev (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) referred to Pereira as “easy money” after the fight.\
Cormier on Khamzat Chimaev
Pereira’s lack of ground experience in his eight MMA fights was evident, which Cormier believes would make for a fantastic stylistic battle for Chimaev.
If you schedule him and Khamzat right now, and Khamzat goes, ‘This is my belt, let me fight,’ Khamzat would be a massive favorite to beat Alex Pereira,” Cormier said .“Just because of the style. The style just does not match up yet and Pereira, he’s so young in his career that this (Adesanya) was honestly the ideal champion for him.”
Cormier believes that the UFC should schedule a Pereira vs. Adesanya rematch right away in order to capitalise on another high-value matchup.
